Pave Lanai!

Pave Lanai!

Q: What's the newest feature developers have added to Lanai?

A: Crystal Meth!

Before construction of the two massive world-class resorts and upscale housing on Lanai, no one there had ever heard of anyone using crystal methamphetamine (ICE) on the island of Lanai. It was a big city problem, far away from the sleepy island community found on this previously tranquil island.

But, with the importation of hundreds of outside construction workers to build the million-dollar homes around the Manele Bay Hotel, suddenly kids on Lanai could find crystal meth anywhere on the island. Now it is permanent, because of the entrenched addict population (created entirely by the developers!)

Who said development can't bring in outside economic opportunity???

So, let's go over this history one more time...

Before 1990: Lanai is an out-of-the way place, and one of the world's largest pineapple plantations.

Early 1990's: Bill Gates has his wedding there...

Late 1990's: The yuppies discover Lanai, an "uncrowded paradise" with a gorgeous beach at the south end of the island. Construction now fully underway on two "world class" resorts. Hundreds of construction workers are imported into the economy, with all of their big-city habits.

2000 and after: Lanai is now a stop on the jet-setter's world tour itinerary. People from big cities are on the island all the time now. People with big-city habits. Including rich people with big-money drug habits.

You do the math. (meth)

Development has single-handedly brought one of the worst drug plagues in the world to a once peaceful island. It will never be the same. If you visit Lanai, you are putting money into the pockets of the individuals who did this to Lanai. Now you know. Shame on you if you go.
